Genesis 21:12-13
Abraham and Sarah celebrated when God fulfilled His promise to give them Isaac. But in all that happiness, a few people were hurting. Ishmael, and his mom, Hagar. And Abraham too, because his heart was pulled in two directions. He knew Isaac was a special part of God’s plan. But he loved his son Ishmael too. The truth is, Abraham never should have taken Hagar to be his wife and had a son. He only did that because he and Sarah grew impatient waiting on God’s promise. Even though Abraham had been impatient, God still kept his promise and gave him Isaac. And he took of Ishmael too! God blessed Ishmael with descendants too, and he became the father of a great people. Because God doesn’t just throw up his hands and forget about us. He wants you to walk with him and enjoy a relationship with Him. Sin got in the way of that happiness because sin separates us from God. But God’s plan to heal our hearts from sin was working.
