The lesson here is that God values the sincerity of our hearts when doing good deeds. Absalom's plan works, and he wins people's hearts. Meanwhile, David faces hardships, possibly due to his past sins. Sin brings sadness, and David acknowledges it. On the Mount of Olives, where Jesus would later cry, David worshipped and trusted God, even in difficult times. David teaches us to focus on God amidst our troubles.
