David’s Kindness Towards Saul

David’s Kindness Towards Saul

In our last story, we learned Ahimelech the priest gave David some special bread and Goliath's sword, and then David fled to King Achish of Gath and pretended he was mad because he was afraid. In this story, we will learn how Saul goes after David again and David sneaks in and cuts off a piece of Saul's robe and decides to not kill Saul, inspired by the book of 1 Samuel.

1 Samuel 24:18-19
Saul continues to chase David, but David chooses not to harm him when they cross paths in a cave. This illustrates the concept of grace—doing kind things for those who don't deserve it. But an even greater example of grace is Jesus, who died for our sins so we can have eternal life with God. Saul's response to David's grace is surprising; he asks for forgiveness and praises David. This teaches us to love and show kindness even to our enemies, as Jesus instructs. David's strength to show grace came from spending time with God in the cave.
