1 Kings 18:21
Elijah faced off against the prophets of Baal, revealing God as the undefeated champion. The people of Israel had strayed, worshipping fake gods, and Elijah orchestrated a contest on Mt. Carmel to demonstrate the one true God's power. Elijah challenged the 850 prophets of Baal to a fiery competition. Despite their fervent pleas and self-inflicted pain, Baal remained silent. Then Elijah, standing alone for God, made his move. He soaked his sacrifice and altar with water, defying all odds. In a spectacular display, fire descended from Heaven, consuming the wet wood, sacrifice, and even the water on the ground. God stood victorious! This showdown affirmed Elijah's unwavering faith. He knew God would never demand terrible actions, emphasizing God's goodness and love.
