Genesis 22:1-2
God wanted Abraham to learn this vital lesson, so he presented him with a test - a monumental challenge to trust God with his precious son, Isaac. Some may wonder why God would ask such a demanding test of Abraham, even to the point of sacrificing his own son. Unlike those gods that required human sacrifices, the true God values and protects life, especially that of children. In the moment of truth, just before Abraham could harm Isaac, God intervened, revealing His merciful nature. He stopped Abraham and provided a ram as a substitute sacrifice. But God also wanted to paint a picture of a future event, in which he sacrificed His own Son. In this act of immense love, God provided Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice to take away our sins. Through His death, we can find redemption and restoration. The story of Abraham foreshadowed this divine plan of salvation.
