2 Samuel 24:2
King David's pride led him to order a census, seeking self-importance amidst Israel's victories. Joab warns that God's blessings make numbers unnecessary, but pride blinds him. In life, when you achieve great things, remember it's God's guidance and gifts that lead to success. David's census counts 1,300,000 people, but he recognizes his mistake and seeks forgiveness. God pardons him but enacts a punishment, bringing a temporary disease upon Israel. David builds an altar at the place of Abraham's sacrifice, a site foretelling Jesus's future crucifixion. Like David, we all need God's forgiveness and mercy, granted through His son.
