The Borders of Canaan

The Borders of Canaan

In our last story, we learned how Miriam and Aaron spoke out against Moses and the Lord caused Miriam to become leprous. Moses prayed for her and after seven days she returned. In this story, we learn about how Moses decided to send men to spy on the land of Canaan to see if they could enter the land. Caleb and Joshua said, "We can do it!" but the others said it was too hard, inspired by the book of Numbers.

Numbers 13:1
God was faithful to the Israelites, rescuing them, providing for them, and keeping His promises. He promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that their descendants would inherit the Promised Land. When 12 spies explored Canaan, only two—Joshua and Caleb—remembered God's faithfulness. The others saw giants and were afraid. Even after God's faithfulness, the Israelites doubted. They wanted to go back to Egypt. God stayed faithful, but He kept the unfaithful ones out of the Promised Land for 40 years, except Joshua and Caleb. In the desert, God cared for them—no holes in shoes, no worn-out clothes. God defeats giants and has amazing things for us, but He wants our trust in His faithfulness.
