Proverbs 16:18
King Amaziah's story echoes a familiar theme: a ruler starting strong with God but succumbing to pride and idolatry. Despite triumphing over the Edomites, Amaziah veers off course by adopting their idols. This recurring pattern serves as a reminder of our inclination to prioritize worldly matters over God. Amaziah's downfall accelerates as pride prompts a foolish challenge to the powerful northern kingdom of Israel. Jehoash's metaphor of a crushed twig emphasizes the consequences of unchecked pride. Amaziah's defeat and death illustrate the biblical warning that pride precedes destruction.
